About Aba (Aba Tibetan & Qiang Autonomous Prefecture)

Aba is the western Sichuan highland prefecture that contains most of Sichuan's World Heritage alpine scenery, the UNESCO-protected Jiuzhaigou Valley and Huanglong travertine pools, the four 6,000-meter peaks of Mount Siguniang, the Ruoergai (Zoige) highland grasslands and wetlands, the Wenchuan earthquake memorial, and the rich Qiang and Tibetan ethnic cultures. The prefecture is the gateway to the Tibetan Kham highlands, the most popular Sichuan tour beyond the Chengdu basin, and a 5-7 day trip covers the standard Jiuzhaigou-Huanglong-Mount Siguniang loop. Summer (Jun-Sep) is the peak season for the alpine lakes and forests; autumn (October) for the Bipeng and Dagu autumn foliage; winter is closed above 3,000 m for most trails.
